Welcome, 2016

The Christmas tree is packed away, much to Prudy’s disappointment (broken ornament count: 3), and we finally, finally have some cool weather set to stick around for a few days. The sun shines today after a couple of gray, rainy days. It feels like a new year and, for the moment, I feel energized.

For the next couple of weeks, I’ll be setting goals and intentions for at least the next quarter of the year. Starting with—no reading challenges. I’m passing on them all, because they were starting to feel not-fun. When reading a vintage mystery starts to feel not-fun, then something’s wrong. In 2016, reading is one area I’m leaving entirely to whim. Any reading projects I take on will be ones I set for myself. (But thank you to the lovely folks who set and run reading challenges—it’s not you, it’s me! I may be back next year.)

I’ll be finalizing my word of the year, playing around with this workbook, and generally doing what I can to set myself up for a fantastic year.

So, welcome 2016. I’ve got a good feeling about you.

Have you made any special plans or set any intentions for 2016?

  1. 2016 is going to be ridiculously awesome! It's good to finish the old and start with the "new" which may actually not be so new, but feels that way.

Our tree came down yesterday and Moby was in it almost until the last moment. (The boxes are almost, but not quite, as much fun as the tree!) She feels Prudy's disappointment.

Looking forward to making progress with you!

  2. Dear Kathy, Sorry I haven't commented recently...I do so love your blog. Here, on the other eastern tip of the country it is finally getting COLD. I love this time of year and I liked reading about your intentions...hard to know which ones to lkeep, which ones to let go of...Realistic intentions...I was thinking of opening a new DAILY blog and realized how unrealistic that was, so at some point this month, hopefully I will just open a new blog.
Have you seen the movie Inside Out, the Disney animation? It was an interesting interpretation on how happiness (Joy) and Sadness work with other emotions...
Thanks, as always for your writing that helps me to reflect ,and to bring reflections to action...R.

  3. Laure--Poor girls. What will they do now that they don't have the tree to mess with?

I'm looking forward to an awesome 2016 for us both!

  4. Rita--It's finally cold here, too--which means 50s instead of 70s for lows! I'm sure you're considerably colder.

I just saw Inside Out this weekend--how's that for coincidence? I thought it was an interesting take on emotions and how valuable they all are. Cute movie, too.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with for a blog. I always appreciate your kind comments here, too. Hope you have a very happy 2016.

  5. Kathy, I think you're smart to pass on the reading challenges this year. If reading isn't fun anymore, what's the point? That's why we read. At least that's why I read and I'm pretty sure that's why you read too. I am doing the classics challenge again this year but I'm not doing any others.

I've been doing Joanne Sharpe's class, Artfully Inspired Life 2015. I signed up for it in late June. I've never really kept a written journal or diary, but I find I've enjoyed writing a few sentences each evening about my day, so I'm doing her 2016 version from the beginning of the year this year.

Your new planner looks pretty cool. I'll be reading your blog to see how it goes. Hope your year is totally awesome! We need to plan another get together soon!!

  6. Cheryl--You're right, I mostly read for fun, and I don't want to do the challenges this year, so I'm not going to.

I'll have to check out Artfully Inspired Life--sounds interesting. I just got a new planner that I can draw and doodle in (inspired by Laure's new planner!) and I've been slowly going through the workbook in the photo. I've realized I haven't really made any progress on big goals because I'm not clear on what they are. Hoping to change all that this year.

Thanks for the good wishes--hope you have a splendid 2016. And I would love to see you in person this year, too!
