First Alligators, and Now This?
August 26, 2011As if alligators weren't enough, this sign recently went up in our subdivision:
The email in question warned residents to be cautious while outdoors from dusk till dawn, because of the presence of aggressive wild hogs. A trapper is working to capture them, and we are to let the management company know if we see any.

ReplyDeleteEvery place has some "pest" or "natural phenomenon" that makes it "dangerous."

Now that's a different kind of wildlife fun! And I thought mosquitoes in the summer were annoying. :)
ReplyDeleteLaure--I don't know--maybe just across town?! Of course, then I wouldn't be able to enjoy the wildlife I like here in our subdivision.
ReplyDeleteKathy--Thanks for your concern. As I'm sure you've heard by now, the hurricane has gone up the east coast and is wreaking havoc in NC, New England and headed for NY.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Pacific Northwest is someplace I truly would be interested in moving to someday. I have family in northern California and my best friend lives in Seattle. I hear Bend, OR is nice...
Danielle--I hear the mosquitos up your way qualify for wildlife status!
ReplyDeleteI guess you guys have it all up there! Maybe it could be turned to the communities' benefit - perhaps some extra pork chops and roasts in the freezers?
ReplyDeleteWe were having issues with bears and coyotes at one time. When they lose their homes and habitat, they start looking for new ones, sometimes right next to humans.
Elizabeth--It's true--probably the main reason the wild hogs are in our neighborhood is that we are in their neighborhood! We've also seen deer grazing in our subdivision, too, so must be slim pickins' in the woods behind us.
ReplyDeleteI think the snakes we have are bad enough. I'm afraid Laure is right and everywhere has something dangerous. We have rattlers instead of hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and big earthquakes. They are more than a nuisance as one killed one of our little dogs but the hurricane has killed many people and probably pets which haven't been counted. I didn't like the tornadoes when I lived in Minnesota and Vermont is dealing with major flooding (my husband is from Vermont). I think it's more a matter of finding the danger you think you can deal with best. Still, aren't alligators enough of a danger? I have to agree piling on wild pigs is not a happy way to go!
ReplyDeleteTimaree--You're right, it really is a matter of finding the danger you can handle, or doing your best to prepare for the possibilities. In CA, where I grew up, it was earthquakes!
